Snow days cause inconvenience for all of us. Closing schools is a difficult decision for the RJDS Administration and Board - trying to weigh the safety of all with the repercussions for working families. To assist families, we would like to outline what you can expect from us on a snow day:
The following things can happen:
1. School will be OPEN unless conditions reach emergency proportions. Radio announcements will only announce those schools that are CLOSED. Most of these will be private or Independent schools. Listen to CKNW 980 AM... PLEASE DO NOT PHONE THE SCHOOL. If you do not receive a phone call from a parent who is responsible for calling from the fan-out list, please assume school is in session.
2. If school is open it may not be a regular instructional day, as some students and teachers may be absent. We will ensure that the children are cared for and safe.
3. School will have regular hours from 8:45 -3:30. In the event that we have to close early, parents will be notified. PLEASE DO NOT CALL THE SCHOOL.
You have some choices:
1. Students are not required to attend school on a snow day when the school is open, if you feel their safety or your own safety may be at risk. You may keep them home.
2. Make plans in advance for what you and your family will do on a snow day.
3. You may send your child(ren) to school knowing that they will be safe and that they may be participating in alternative activities for the day.
If you need clarification or would like to discuss this further, please feel free to contact the school. | | |
